On Tuesday night October 12 PDT, a flood of emails were sent from stage-mini@mint.com to some Mint users. We apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have caused. It was a misconfiguration from a test system (with no customer data) causing blank emails to go out. There was no security breach and no data was compromised. Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We are putting measures in place so this never happens again.
Sincerely,
Stephen and the rest of the Mint Team

Update 6:00 PM 10/13/2010
We posted our official statement on the Mint Blog this morning:
http://www.mint.com/blog/updates/why-...
We will be sending out an apology email shortly. While we terminated the sending late last night, many emails were already set for delivery so some users received the blank emails into this afternoon. We deeply apologize for the frustration and alarm this may have caused.

Why did you receive blank emails from Mint.com late Tuesday night?

Yes I got a few of those test emails. I am a developer and understand things happen....all good :) All you can do is learn from it, improve, and move on right?

Things happen, but its the proactive response that you issued that sets you apart. Many thanks!

Though it caused a hint of alarm at first, I trusted that if any information was compromised Mint would have contacted me. This sincere statement by Mint is comforting because it lets me know how serious Mint is when it comes to security and only makes me love Mint that much more. Keep up the great work!

The explanation is greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work. [side-comment: while I love using mint on my iPhone I really wish there was an iPad version, I also wish that it would sync properly with my US Government Student Loan and 401k and that Zwillow would find my house (they do on their site but somehow not on mint.com)] ... in short I am a very happy user of Mint and only look forward to it getting better and better! :)

I had a moment of concern, but thanks for the update, it's always a positive sign when someone admits making a mistake. The important thing is that you guys will be putting in better controls to avoid this happening again.

This stuff happens. Glad it wasn't sending out personal data.

I got my whole account summery in my e-mail. This concerns me a lot and is quite disturbing to see details of your account when you click on your e-mail. I do not want my account in my e-mail. I don't know what it would mean and I am concerned enough to think about deleting the account although I love the program. Can you clarify?
-
jkhan, I'm not sure how long ago you signed up for Mint, but we all get weekly e-mails about our account status to keep us posted and on track with our budget.
The e-mail this is referring to is BLANK; there was NO data in it and no accont summary. It's the blank e-mail they sent out to us that they are apologizing for. The e-mail sent to you with your budget for this week is normal...nothing to be worried about there. As with any e-mail, don't use an easy password or give it to anyone else. :-D
Signed,

If anyone in here thinks this was other then a silly error, your not thinking in a logical manner. Blah blah blah I just hope the server dude didn't get too much of a lashing.

Just make sure you guys don't lose a laptop full of user private data... that would be a disaster, wouldn't it. I'm just saying.

-
Same as everyone else; thanks for the candid response and being open about it with us! I've done it before.when I was in the programming field and was testing. Thanks.

-
As a programmer for over a decade, I definitely understand that things like this happen. I appreciate your honesty.

I understand the issue but why did I get 6 emails, all blank and all to the same email address?
-
-
I was glad to see the proactive response but I've since had an incredibly difficult time getting into my account. I got a message indicating I need to logon or my account might be "deleted soon," yet repeated attempts to login and subsequent requests for a password reminder are bringing nothing more than an automated reply to my inbox. I have no idea if I'm still active or not, and the only way I got on here was to create a profile under the same e-mail address as before--and the system didn't warn me that another profile under the same address already existed. Help?!

Hi bpugh,
Your email address can only be tied to one Mint account. From what I can tell with limited information is that you had a Mint account tied to an old email address (which was possibly setup to forward to the email account you used to setup a new account yesterday). In order to look into this further, it would be best to contact Customer Support directly. When you do so, please provide a copy of the email you received and any old email addresses you may have used to setup your original Mint account.
To submit a request for our Customer Support, please use our Contact Mint form:
https://wwws.mint.com/login.event?tas...
If you are unable to access with your log in and password, you can use this form instead:

We guarantee a response within 24 hours.
Best regards,
Traycee -
