Mint.com now supports almost all major Canadian banks for aggregation. It's not truly Canada ready (no Toronto stock feeds, cheque is spelled check, and you might get 401k & 529 suggestions which apply only to the U.S.).
But, in short, Mint Canada is quietly open...

Any progress in the past 9 months for the Canadian functionality on Mint.com?
-
-
I think it's been a couple of years that people have been requesting this. What could possibly be holding this up?
-
-
Yeah mint would be so great for me - but can't use it. I was looking into this service https://lessaccounting.com/index2.html as a substitute for the time being. Any better ideas to replace Mint that work for Canada?
-
Lessaccounting seems to be for businesses, and has a monthly fee. Anyone know of a free version designed for personal finances in canada?

I've been using quickenonline.com , have to put in a fake us zip code though. And ya, mints been stumbling over localization for the last few years, I gave up hope.

Come on Mint. Show us some Canadian love, eh? Even if we have to, for the first little bit, manually import our data.

Hey, Desjardins in Canada is now working. Stop complaining: they're doing efforts :P

I can't get it to work with Desjardins... Did you use Desjardinsbank.com? If so, what do they consider as an "AccessID" ?

I'd like to see Mint work in Canada too. Where is it on the product roadmap? When can we expect it?

Sure! Just have to choose the right questions and the right answers and everything works well :D

Well, I found only 2 questions that are the same in Mint,
On what street did I live when I was 19 years old? and
What make was my first car?
And the question are not the same for everyone on desjardins I think.
And with these informations, I'm not able to validate desjardins's account.- view 3 more comments

lol - all we get is a single response from a year ago saying "we're doing the best we can"

I should have used this line: "We're doing the best we can" to the boss and his boss when they asked about a project, then tell them that "this answers the question" and walk away. How is this an acceptable answer?

Waiting for Canada here - lame company - no updates whatsoever

A new update from the company would be nice - even if it is to tell us it will still be months. Would help people plan temp solutions.

I tweeted it, @mint and @mintdotcom (they appear to be the same company) That seemed to get something last year when some on did it - we'll see I guess.

We would like to update from Quicken for Mac '04 & are looking at versions ....seems to be very little on the horizon....a year has gone by & no reply....gosh maybe MINT didn't like the silver medal
-
-
Been using quicken online and its being discontinued. I'd like to go to mint now.
-
-
From the responses on other threads they've been working on a Canada solution for years with no progress. Could be privacy legislation up here, but they are not saying. Whatever it is they stopped replying to query's over a year ago.
Other posters gave wesabe.com or geezeo.com as possible alternatives. I have not checked them myself yet -
-
We are looking at alternatives.
YNAB (you need a budget) seemingly will download Quicken .qif files (CIBC compatible) at least they offer to be the default app for them. Seems promising. -
-
Any chance you could add functionality to at least let us upload QFX files manually from our Canadian banks in the meantime?

So Mint was purchased by Intuit. Who are Canadian...
Then Intuit stop working on their Quicken Online 3 months ago...
Now I sit in limbo, not wanting to add or input anything more into Quicken because it's cancelled but I can't switch to mint because they don't support Canadian Banks.
So my options are to use older software that isn't being improved and my work and time to setup and update budgets, set goals and categorize purchases are a waste of effort... or go to a competitor with inferior software.
Seems to me that Intuit didn't think this one through. They are upsetting Canadians (like me) and making us (at least me) feel extremely under appreciated. Aren't we the ones most important to you? Near and dear to your heart so to speak?
The simplest of solutions would be to at least let me know that you are working on something. Get your developers to tweet, blog or post in a forum about the progress. Let me know that there are steps being taken forward since the Initial press release of the purchase of mint.
Since my exceptions are so low right now I don't expect anyone from Mint/Intuit to read this, care about this, or concern themselves with this. Maybe after reading this they feel a fleeting thought of "This guy will see what we are launching in 1 -6 months and he'll be happy". While this might be true, I'll still think that there could have been more done to keep your customers satisfied and you passed on that opportunity and did not have your users at the top of your priority list.
Thanks. -
-
tommy.t,
I completely agree with you on everything you say about Intuit not keeping us abreast of what is going on. However you've made one incorrect assumption about Intuit that would likely explain why we up here in the Great White North are being ignored...
Intuit is not a Canadian company. 'Intuit Canada' is a subsidiary of Intuit, which is a Calfornia based company.
This may make is seem like the potential for Canadian Bank support to be more bleak. Hopefully they realize though how many Canadians use Quicken and QuickTax and Quickly get their act together on this. -
-
I posted to this site sometime ago and have looked at the alternatives ; IBank, YNAB, Money something & finally decided to put our money behind Quicken Essentials for Mac. Yes it does not support Canadian banks directly nor does it track Canadian investments but I have been able to download our accts. from CIBC . We used Quicken '04 for 6 years or so & if Essentials is operational for a similar period our investment of 60+$ will be worth it. No cloud worries.

I learned today from an IS person at a Financial Planning company that the 'back end', the infrastructure for Canadian Banking is almost entirely proprietary. There are no standardized 'hooks' for connecting and getting the information that Mint can get with US banks. So the problem is not with Intuit, or even a lack of 'vision' for this market. It's with the Canadian adoption of diverse banking IS systems, rather than standardizing on one or two, which is what happened in the States.
For this reason, we can expect the time for Mint, Quicken, or any other package to support Canada to be so far in the future that it might as well be 'never'. -
-
@ddrucker www.quickenonline.intuit.com already supports all major Canadian banks. So they have the knowledge AND the code to quickly support us.
@CadenceK My bad! I always thought Quicken was Canadian. -
-
-
-
"Quicken Online will be going away, and we’ll be migrating to Mint."
"We’re also looking at expanding internationally, to Canada and other countries. What makes it challenging, however, is that in the U.S., the banking industry is so competitive. There’s incentive there. Canada really only has five banks — that marketplace doesn’t really make sense for us right now."
Aaron Patzer, VP and GM, Intuit; founder, Mint.com
http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=29318
Canadians, don't hold your breath. -
-
How does the banking industry being more competitive make there more incentive for the US? If there is only five banks in Canada, then it should be easy to just implement those 5... The provided statement is like saying its easier to do 500 than it is 5, which doesn't make sense at all.
-
The way they make money is offering suggestions to you that would improve your financial well being. With only 5 banks available there is very little competition to give consumers better rates on transactions or deposits. So these companies won't be giving mint.com much in the way of advertising or referral dollars.
-
-
-
-
-
The answer should really be updated to reflect the reality that this is not going to happen.
-
-
I saw on another board that Presidents choice financial actually works. I signed putting in a US address and yes, PC financial works, however there are issues it looks like with Lines of credit and such under the same account.
-
-
When it comes to banking, I'm beginning to see how Canada is much farther from the US than you'd think a neighbour would be. This has good and bad sides to it; we didn't suffer from the economic meltdown the way the US did (no sub-prime mortgages or credit default swap derivatives, etc.), but we will probably have to create our own banking apps, and a Mint clone will have to be taken up by a Canadian company -- when and if our 5 banks are ready to cooperate. I suspect that is the real logjam, not the lack of profit or incentive.
Note that CIBC has it's own iPhone app, so it's possible to do some tech projects here, at least with one bank. We also have Interac. The US has nothing like it; you can pay with your ATM card at nearly every vendor or restaurant you can think of in Canada, but you wouldn't dream of that in the US, where they still have to use credit cards for that sort of convenience. -
-
A follow up to that: Won't Mr. Maxwell perhaps look into doing a deal with some Canadians for creating a Canadian Mint (CanMint?) project? I wouldn't mind entertaining such a project, if others wanted to get involved.
-
-
A few reasons that mint may not work on Canadian banks.
This applies to Canada Trust & Royal Bank, others I am assuming are similar. All banks would have to be on board with the same system just to start getting the process working and thats not the current one.
You cannot have your card number or card id on auto complete as the mint computer would fill that in. Now it puts in the password and so far so good, but wait, the computer needs to accept cookies because if the bank does not recognize the computer (needs both proper cookie and same ip), it will go into a secondary personal verification stage.
On this secondary stage it will randomly ask you one of three personal verification questions that you set up when originally registering, Mothers maiden name, dogs name etc.
The computer has no way of knowing the proper answer because it does not know which question, so it may put in the first answer (that you supplied mint). If that s not it then another question will be asked (again hit or miss) after 3 tries the account locks and you need to call bank to unlock and then again go through the login process.
So in addition to not working without cookies the chances of guessing the right secondary answer correct is roughly 1 in 729 times, thats 243 account lockouts.
That and the fact that you are supplying mint with ALL your card numbers and passwords and secondary personal verification info to carry all in one spot, I am sure they have a diff system in the states but right now that would be a scary situation up here.
The other info floating around out there is that Interact, (maybe with intuit) along with the big five banks and quite a few credit unions are working on their own mint type software and so it is in their best interests to not have mint work. -
-
It doesn't seem like too much of an obstacle, though, or at least not one that couldn't be overcome pretty easily. I only say this because Quicken Online provided very similar functionality, and definitely worked with my TD Bank account. Now Mint and Quicken have merged, and we basically got the worst possible outcome: not only do we still not have Mint, we also lost Quicken Online. Depressing.
I mean, I would try Wasabi, or something, but I'm a sucker for a slick interface.
Surely, I mean so say, surely it's not impossible to put the people who got Quicken Online up and running in Canada working on extending Mint's functionality north of the border? We're nice people. -
-

Quicken is similar but not exactly the same, it should be an easy fix you would think but they have been promising us a fix for 18 plus months now.
Now if mint has quicken and intuit something could be in the works with interact and the big five banks - as I mention it the last paragraph of my last post. -
-
I find some of the excuses just cop outs. Quicken online works for Canadian banks! If you signed up for an account before they migrated to mint you can still update all your information. I'm with RBC and my quicken onlien account still works fine. However now if you want to sign up for a new account you are redirected to the mint site which is US only. It really make zero sense since Quicken is still able to retrive Canadian banking information.

It all boils down to whether the company can make money. Little competion with lots of government regulation equals little incentive for companies to offer such services. Don't be surprised to see a fee to use this service to help cover loss of banking referral revenue here in Canada .

Why can't they do something like add advertisements on a side bar for Canadian's then. I'm sure they could get a healthy stream of willing advertisers for that.
EDIT: I guess they wouldn't want to 'cheapen' the look. However I'd rather have it work, and have some ad's. I would wonder what the per user revenue actually is, I've been using it with PC financial for a bit and it seems to work pretty good. I'd be willing to pay like $20 a year or something. -
-
I'm just speculating that's what is happening. My guess is the REAL money is when we as consumers actually switch to these services suggested not just see their adds. Again just my thoughts, who knows. I do know I would love to see it come to Canada, it looks like a good service.

@Jami: that's a very poor response. It doesn't indicate any degree of sympathy or understanding with where people are coming from. It doesn't give any hint of /why/ it's taking so long or of the difficulties involved from the Mint side.
@Glen36 on the other hand offers a brilliant, albeit unverified, explanation. Nicely done. At this point I don't care if he's right, though I'd be surprised to find out if he's more than half wrong. Thank you for taking the time to provide *information* -

Wesabe is no more...
Come on, there is literally no decent site supporting canadian banks. -
-
Yes Wesabe just announced they're closing. Is Mint.com's business model also in jeopardy? Is Intuit in jeopardy?
-
-
Why not to enable QFX uploads as already been mentioned? Or why not to give some meaningful response to this so popular and so :-( thread.
-
-
The problem with Mint ever answering this thread is if you look at the top they have it marked as "The company marked this question as answered" Which means it's dead to them.
The answer given was from a Justin Maxwell, Official Rep,
"We -- meaning the Mint staff, including the two Canadians here -- are doing what we can to make it happen. Thanks for your patience and support!"
Of course that was well over a year ago now with no resolution in site. They must have fired the Canadians.
edit- They did answer once again a few months back when I found their twitter and tweeted them - that time they posted;
"There have been no updates to this topic because we do not yet have any updates to share. This is something we're still working towards and as soon as we have some good news to share, you bet you'll be the first to know.
Thank you,
Jami
Mint Community Manager"
Can't get mad at somebody named Jami now can you? But yet again no meaningful response. Basically it is a no go I fear as similar services are closing their doors (low business due to security issues) I feel Mint will do the same before having a chance to move north. -
-
Anything else out there that could replace Wesabe? I *just* started using it and now there's nothing out there!
Mint accepts PC Bank, but no mortgage line, and doesn't take TD Visa. Sad. -

CANADIAN BANKS NOW WORK WITH MINT!!
All banks that were supported on Quicken Online are now supported on Mint.com. I've confirmed: RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC. -
-
Not for me. I can see it listed, but it does not connect. Perhaps it doesn't work in BC yet.
-
Delete your existing Mint account and create a new one. Accounts created before March 31 2010 don't have access full access to the new banks added from Quicken Online. Mine didn't work initially when I tried adding banks today, on the account created last fall... once I deleted the account, and created it again, I could see the banks.
-
-
-
-
-
Didn't work for Caisse Desjardins, National Bank of Canada... Still crappy
-
-
I was just able to successfully add my RBC account, but neither ING Direct (Canada) nor American Express (Canada) work ... this is exciting progress though :-)
-
-
I could add my RBC account but it can't connect to it :( True though, it's good to see a canadian bank added...
-
-
Just tested that it works for td canada trust, and pcfinancial
amex canada is having some 'temporary issues' it says.
+ can't add my home, since it only takes zip codes.-
It says "Temporary issue connecting..." is your still working?

I'm excited by the development for Canadian banks... I'm sure there are plenty of other banks that need integration, but personally I really need American Express Canada working... otherwise, there's no point having an overall financial snapshot in Mint, without my primary credit card.
Really hope this gets working soon! -

Anyone succeded in adding a "Caisse populaire Desjardins" account? The security questions doesn't seem to be the good ones for me...
-

Caisse Desjardins isn't there (to my knowledge at least)
The Desjardins Bank you see is a "US Division" mainly in Fl. from what I've seen... The url to their site is desjardinsbank.com -
-
where do you see the security questions???? Can't see it for any of my banks...
-
-
-
-
damn, for RBC for example, I only see the card number and one password field... no question fields... :(
-
It will ask you the question once it tries to connect. I'm assuming that on first connect it disables questions for that point forward so they don't need to ask you all three questions.
-
-
It never asked me the questions... I deleted the account and readded it several times without getting the questions. On my bank account it tells me someone tried to log in without the answers for the questions :(

90210!! The great Canadian zip code!
-
-
The Zip codes are only used for recommendations - like American credit cards, banks, and probably collecting generalized usage data in various areas. They are not critical to the sign up progress - any Zip code will do.
Mint's Founder Aaron Patzer has already stated that Mint hasn't officially launched in Canada yet; that it's opened up to Canadian banks, and that's about it. So don't expect everything to be smoothed out yet - that'll come with time. -

An interesting question was raised on a different Canada thread - thought I post it here too for info purposes.
Was along the lines is you give up all your security info including all your passwords and hint answers etc. Who is responsible for a breach?
Saying they have the best there is does not cut it, a lot of "best there is" have been hacked, this would be a goldmine.
Post from user phluphph
How can Mint.com reconcile asking for bank card info and passwords when
the Electronic Access Agreement sez....
PART B: PASSWORDS, INSTRUCTIONS AND E-MAIL
Passwords: You agree to keep your Passwords absolutely confidential; they are for your use alone. You will not tell anyone else (including a close family member, a friend or any bank or public official) what your Password is. You must carefully select your Passwords so that they cannot be easily guessed by anyone else. When choosing a Password, you must not use:
Your name or a close relative's name
Your birth date, year of birth, telephone number or address, or a close relative's
Your Bank Card number or User ID
Your Account number or credit card number
A number on any ID card you keep with your Bank Card or in your purse or wallet (such as your SIN or driver's license number)
Any other number which can be easily obtained or guessed by someone else, or
A password you use for any other service.
You should memorize your Passwords rather than keep any written record of them. However, if you decide that you truly need to keep a written record, you agree that:
You will not record your Password on, or in close proximity to your Bank Card or the record of your User ID. (For example, if you put your Bank Card in your wallet or purse or a drawer, you will not keep a record of your Password there too.)
Your Password must be disguised within the written record you make so that no else can easily guess that it is a record of your Password.
You will not record your Password electronically on your computer in any way, and you will not store your Password near your computer (for example, on a sticky note placed on the edge of your monitor screen).
If we send you a Password, you will destroy the document on which it is printed.
AND.....
Responsibility for Losses: You are responsible for any Losses that result from your own use of your Bank Card or User ID and your Passwords, or from any use by a person that you authorized (contrary to Section 5) to use your Bank Card or User ID and your Passwords. You are also responsible for any Losses that result if:
You make an entry error when using Online Banking or Wealth Management Online
You claim that an Account or Service was accessed by someone else but you do not co-operate fully in an investigation by us or the authorities, or
Someone else uses your Bank Card or User ID without your authority but your actions (or inaction) contribute to that unauthorized use.
You acknowledge that the amount of Losses for which you may be held liable is not limited to the Account balance if the Account has overdraft or similar protection, or by your credit limit if it is a credit card Account or loan Account.- view 2 more comments

In addition if these posts are talking about possible security problems with Mint being able to come to Canada then its definitely on topic for this thread
-
-
Firstly, there are other threads to discuss security problems, and should be done there. Secondly, yes, they do require your banking password, and card number. However, the information you gathered from their Terms Of Service is about the password you create to login to Mint. I mean, what could they possibly mean when they say: "If we send you a Password, you will destroy the document on which it is printed."? They are clearly referencing the password you create for your Mint login. Nevermind the fact that they mention the "password you create"repeatedly; As in, during the Mint account setup process, not your banks.

You are missing National Bank of Canada; it's one of the 3 biggest banks in Canada...

Jezreel, Official Rep, replied in a diff thread today:
Hello Minters,
If you were able to access a Canadian financial institution via Quicken Online you can now access the same Canadian financial institution on Mint.com. Please note, however, that dollar values are not converted to US dollars and you will see transaction and balance amounts in values as they appear on your Canadian online financial institution site. Please be aware of this when setting up your Alert preferences, especially if you use both US dollar and CA dollar based online banking sites in Mint.com. -
