Mint is unable to connect to ECSI
I am unable to retrieve data from ECSI.net account. Attempting to login to the main ECSI website works fine, but when I attempt to add the account to Mint.com, it takes a long time before reporting a "Temporary Issue Connecting". 24 hours later, the problem is still occurring.

Howdy,
We have an update with ECSI. We have been in contact with them and they are working toward the solution on their end. While we can not speculate on the exact time connectivity will be restored, ECSI has indicated they are working toward a resolution but it is still weeks away.
Thanks for your continued patience. We look forward to the eventual resolution of this issue.

3Hello all,
It is highly unlikely that this will be resolved. We have been in contact with ECSI and they have demonstrated that they are unwilling to work with us toward resolution. They simply do not see "what's in it for them", despite the fact that approx 10,000 of their customers have demonstrated interest in using Mint.
Unfortunately, at this time, there is no way to manually update your accounts.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and will keep you posted if anything changes.
Please note that while I'll keep this topic open for you to continue posting, I'll not be responding on any regular basis as there is nothing more that I can do at this time. I
Best,
Jami -
Hello all,
I wanted to confirm that we've reached out to ECSI to attempt to work to resolution but we have been unable to schedule a meeting. We'll continue to reach out in hopes that we can get them to lift the block they've placed on our aggregation efforts and will keep you posted.
We apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.
Best,
Jami

Spam their facebook page, it's easy and annoying for them until they fix the issue. That's what they get for sitting on their hands for the past year.
-
If my clients asked me to fix a problem and I gave them a total of 3 small updates over the course of a full year without solving it, I'd be fired. Honestly, if 1288 people have this problem and you can't be bothered to update us regularly, don't post that you're "excited" about a possible solution and then disappear for another 5 months. Thats insulting.
-
ECSI Is the absolute worst! It is obvious (and not just because of their unwillingness to cooperate with Mint) that they really just want to make it as difficult as possible to pay ANYTHING off so that they can rake you for interest and overdraft fees. Unacceptable! Really? You won't take VISA? COME ON!

I received this on March 15 from ECSI

We are currently working with mint.com to make our systems compatable. This should be corrected very soon.
Thank You

Hey Guys,
Could we please get an update on this? It's been a while now, and this is starting to get unprofessional. You guys are a serious company - we need serious answers. If you say ECSI is going to finished with their sync feature in a few weeks, and it's been a few months, this is a problem. -
Hi Mint,
If you aren't going to give updates on how you are addressing this issue, can you at least throw an anniversary party in April for all of us who have been staring at this issue for a full year with the small and fleeting hope of it being fixed someday? -
I'm unclear as to why Mint.com won't allow us to manually enter information for situations such as this one. If a company is blocking usage then I should as least be able to enter it manually. Whats the point of having a budgeting tool if I can't enter all the information TO budget?!
-
Can we please get a way to manually enter in the amount from the ECSI account. I do not want to add it to the Other category- it messes all my budgets up.
Here is a suggestion. To each account that is set to "closed" status- meaning mint.com does not automatically pull the information- give us a little box to manually update the information. -
Would it be possible for mint to allow manual updating of the account in while this issue gets resolved?
-
This needs to become more transparent from ECSI and Mint. Mint is holding their cards close to their chest and it makes me want to jump ship.
While I understand that ECSI is blocking Mint aggregation efforts... figure it out! Find out what the reassurances that they need are... clearly they think there is a security risk in sharing the information with Mint. Fix it.
Come on Mint. Great customer service provides confidence that a company is "Doing the Right Thing." How can I trust you to correctly resolve breaches and hack attempts when you can't stay on top of a flailing relationship with a data provider (or even regularly update your customers on what you're doing to fix the problem)?
I say, post the information public here. Detailed call logs... say who you talked to and what they said. If you want us to believe you over ECSI... this needs to get resolved or get public. There needs to be a DAILY update on this from Mint. -
How stupid are most of you people? The fact that Mint can aggregate banking information from dozens of different banking websites that store and present their data differently, not to mention the incredibly different security measures that each uses, is completely amazing.
When something works for a year and all of a sudden stops working, it generally isn't the aggregator's fault - it is the lender that still has a website from the 1990's. And when that lender posts messages about "waiting for a response from Mint about security flaws in Mint's website", that means the ECSI's IT department is too stupid to figure out what they screwed up, so blame security!
If ECSI doesn't provide an interface for another site like Mint to access the information, THERE IS NOTHING MINT CAN DO ABOUT IT. Be thankful that Mint provides you a fantastic service that works with so many other sites - for free. -
"Mint: "I wanted to confirm that we've reached out to ECSI to attempt to work to resolution but we have been unable to schedule a meeting."
ECSI: "Our IT department has reached out to Mint in the hopes we can rectify this for you and the others that use this service."
Someone's a liar, and the users lose regardless of who it is."
THIS. Care to respond, please, Mint? -
I emailed Mint about it, mentioning that we haven't gotten an update in over a month. Clearly Mint and ECSI are pointing the finger at one another, and no one is taking responsibility:
"Thank you for contacting Mint.com
We’ve been informed by our data provider that ECSI account is currently blocking our data aggregation efforts. Until the block is lifted, the issue you are experiencing with this account cannot be resolved. We are in the process of working to address this issue.
We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Thank you,
Renan F.
Mint.com"
Contrast this with ECSI's response:
"Hello
We have had several problems with mint.com interfacing with our website the issues exist with Mint.com not ECSI. At this time ECSI is not supporting Mint.com. Our IT department has reached out to Mint in the hopes we can rectify this for you and the others that use this service. If you have further questions you will need to contact Mint.com directly. Thank you." -
Is there a way to update my account balance manually while ECSI is in limbo?
-
Original 2011-05-03: It's nice that the problem is acknowledged. Mint, can you please respond again? It's been 18 days--that's over 2 weeks! I know that sometimes problem resolution takes time, but it would help keep your customers happy if we could get a status update.
Even if it's just an update stating that you are still working on it and no displayable progress has been made, that would be more appreciated than no response at all. Have you forgotten about us?
Edit 2011-05-18: It has now been over a month and still no response from Mint. Note that many users have received responses from ECSI. These responses state that even ECSI is waiting for a response from Mint and that ECSI can do nothing more before Mint responds. It would be really nice if Mint could respond one of these days... -
I'm also having this problem. Here is the link from which you can send an email to ECSI: http://www.ecsi.net/bwr/contacts.html
Feel free to copy and paste this message:
I'd like to see my ECSI account on Mint.com, but apparently you have disabled Mint's access. Isn't there some way to allow access during off-peak hours so the hundreds (or more) of your customers can get daily updates and use this link to manage their finances? Without the reminders in Mint, aren't more people likely to be late in their payments to you? Surely there is a benefit to both ECSI and customer to find a solution... -
I think that if all of the 376 people who have this problem were to e-mail ECSI begging them to allow Mint to access the account, they would probably listen.
To Mint, I would suggest a contract that allows Mint to access our accounts only during off-peak hours, like early morning. We would have to be satisfied with an update once a day (or perhaps even once a week?), but who really makes loan payments more frequently than that, anyways? I have already suggested that to ECSI.

I'm new to Mint.com and immediately realized how useful it could be to budgeting and taking control of my personal finances. However, many of us have debt to ECSI and without access to it, Mint.com is rather useless. There is no realistic, practical way for me to use this service without taking into account a considerable amount of my debt with ECSI. Because it is a national holder of mainly student loans, I am surprised Mint.com has not tried harder to reconcile this problem.
I wish Mint.com would understand how this is making it's users feel and how useless this application is without access to ALL our accounts. -

This is ridiculous.
For everyone that is as frustrated as I am on both companies' inability to get anything done, don't forget to regularly contact ECSI as well to make sure they are actively working on a solution. It's much harder to turn a blind eye to your customers if we keep reminding them that we exist and this stalemate is unacceptable. -

ECSI is the problem. We need to take our complaints out of this useless forum and bring it to ECSI. In public.
ECSI has a facebook page and a twitter account. Post your complaints there. Force them to listen to us. This is the ONLY way to speed things up!

Hey guys, I received this 2 days ago from ECSI:
Good evening,
Companies such as Mint.com use an aggregation approach that, when set up, stores the user's user name and password on the servers for these domains. They do not connect directly to ECSI from their software to gain access to your ECSI account information, rather the company stores the information and connects for you.
ECSI is currently not supporting these applications as any exposure of the aggregator's system could place a significant portion of our users at risk. We have determined as a company that the liability for another company to aggregate our user's login credentials and passwords, as well as financial data is not appropriate for ECSI at this time.
We will continue to review these items as we move forward to see if we can come to an arrangement with aggregators such as Mint.com to ensure the integrity of our user's logon credentials and passwords.
Thank you,
Connie

In other words, ECSI is blaming mint for a for not having a secure enough interface. I wonder if they actually think we buy that, considering all of my other online accounts integrate securely and easily.-
So now they're completely changing their story?? They sent the other canned message to me about contracts not more than 3 days ago.
This is EXACTLY why we need to stop hiding this problem on this forum and take our complaints to them in PUBLIC via facebook and twitter. We need to force them to tell us exactly what their position is, and make it clear that we want them to support Mint!
See my post above. Let's take this to facebook and twitter and get results! You've all seen this strategy work before with companies much larger than ECSI, like Bank of America, HTC, Asus, and others! -

At this rate, I'll have the loan paid off before anything is fixed...-
