Mint can't access my Salliemae account
Mint won't access my salliemae account ... tells me i'm using the wrong userID and/or password, but I know that this is not true.

Make sure you input BOTH social security and account number. I tried several times without the account number to no avail. I then logged back into Sallie Mae, grabbed the account number and voila! My Sallie Mae loans are finally in Mint.
-
Sallie Mae is definitely a tough one (I have this account myself) - most of the problems I see with Sallie Mae are when users skip or incorrectly answer the security questions. Have you correctly answered the same security questions in Mint that you have in your actual Sallie Mae account?

I figured that's what it was ... so i do suggest changing the error message (if you can). In terms of the security questions, I'm choosing the ones that i always answer the same, so i don't really know what to do other than keep trying.
thanks, though. -
-
finally got it to work after trying several permutations of the 7,000 security questions. Thanks!
-
-
what do i do to get this to work? i know i've picked the 5 questions I set up on salliemae and the username & pwd are correct. i'm at a loss here.
-
-
This is what worked for me . . . you have to answer each question in the same order as on Sallie Mae.
I would recommend logging into Sallie Mae, changing your challenge questions (they can be the same, just take note of what order they are in), and then try to add your account in Mint. -
-
I have redone my challenge questions as mentioned above and in other forums and it still does not work. This seems to only work for about a quarter of the people who try it (if you look at the posters on the mint messageboard). This problem is DEFINITELY not resolved.
-
-
Same as jonblazn. I reset my challenge questions and entered them into mint in the same order, still can't get in.
-
-
-
-
-
-
This problem is NOT solved. I think it is because Mint only allows you to save answers to two questions, but Sallie Mae has a whole bunch of security questions that get asked in random pairs of two
-
-
This problem is not solved for me either. I don't even get the chance to enter security questions, it just flat out rejects my username and password. This makes my net worth calculations virtually worthless.
-
-
Not solved! At least not when you have both ED and Sallie Mae loans. I am not asked any security questions
-
-
Absolutely the problem I'm having. I have Sallie Mae and Sallie Mae/Department of Education loans and I don't get asked security questions.
-
-
I, too, never get the option to even answer security questions. It tells me that "my bank needs me" and need to login into Sallie Mae to update information with them. I have logged in to Sallie Mae over and over and there is nothing there for me to update.
-
-
Same exact thing here as mrm1119.
Mint and Sallie Mae dont work!... Come on MINT...can you help us out? -
-
-
Yes, the same problem as mrm1119, maxim_311, and mssdeed. I really hope Mint can help us out because I can't figure out want to do.
-
-
-
-
-
OK, big problem here. My sallie mae account is not syncing at all with this and I am sure that it should. Not sure what all this talk is about security questions, but there are no longer any options for that. Would love to track this down though so can we get this together?
-

"Your bank needs you to update some information.
Please visit Sallie Mae Loan and resolve the issue."
'Go to Bank' or 'Ignore'
Passwords are a non-issue as they aren't even an option!
When following the 'Go to Bank' option, it just directs you to the SM web page to log in. Once you are logged in, there are no prompts for "some information" This started about 7 days ago! -
-
i'm having the same issue. Mint says that my bank (Sallie Mae) "needs me" and I've gone to the Sallie Mae website several times, don't get prompted for anything, and it continues to show the same message.
-
same. def not solved, mint dont be lazy
-
-
-
-
-
Same issue. Doesn't work. Did all the instructed steps. Please re-open this issue or contact Sallie Mae. Are we supposed to enter the SSN and date in a certain format? Thank you.
-

Hi. New to Mint.com and love it! Sallie Mae is my only account that is giving me frustration and it appears that I'm having the same issue as many here:
I enter my information, enter my correct login and security questions, and it still says: "Your bank needs you!" but there are no options to correct anything from Sallie Mae. -
-
Mint, you are awesome in every other way, but please fix this. I don't see a need to rehash the problem; it is adequately stated above. I am just posting here so there is an accurate representation of how big the problem is.
-
-
Having the same issue as folks above. When I follow the link back to Salliemae to fix the problem, it asks for an ssn and dob. Maybe the problem is that Mint doesn't provide any fields for that? Hope this gets fixed soon.
Lots of love to the Mint developers -
-
I'm having this problem as well. Sallie Mae has worked fine for the past 9 months of me using mint, and it just decided to stop working a few days ago.
I wonder if this has to do with the additional security verification sallie mae has added to their website at about the same time. -
-
-
-
Make sure you input BOTH social security and account number. I tried several times without the account number to no avail. I then logged back into Sallie Mae, grabbed the account number and voila! My Sallie Mae loans are finally in Mint.

After many frustrating months, this solution worked for me right away. That should be an "AND" and not an "OR" when you edit your Sallie Mae details. Filling in all the fields of the Mint page worked like a charm.
Whew! Thanks for all the posts here, gang. -
-
worked for me too!! thanks!
-
-
-
-
Alright, sallie mae works for me now but the department of education sallie mae still doesn't.
-
-
they changed the login fields and it worked! thanks mint
-

This finally works! Enter in all the fields, including acct # with your username, etc.

I have multiple Sallie Mae loans/billing groups. The login problem has been solved, but Mint is now only pulling the info for one of the loans. Any advice?
-
-
I too now have the Sallie Mae "Your bank needs you" glitch after trying several times to connect the account to Mint. I can log in just fine at the salliemae.com website. Thank you for any help!

I'm having the same issue "your bank needs you" - I can log into SM with no problem

carlbordelon: that worked for me - thanks!

Worked for me as well. The only other thing I needed to do was delete the Sallie Mae account and re-add it. SSN and DOB, no spaces.
-
-
-
-
-
-
My Sallie Mae doesn't even get to security questions it just asks me for my UN and PW and then says my bank needs me. Then I go to sallie mae and log in and it says reconnect on mint.com to no avail! WTF! PNC and now Sallie Mae, mint.com is becoming pretty useless when it breaks every other day !
-
-
I'm still having an issue. I get the "Your bank needs you", so I relogin, but then it thinks for a while and comes back with "Temporary issue!"
I don't see where to sign up for uPromise, like someone else suggested, either.
The weird thing is, my Sallie Mae Department of Education loans are brought in fine, but the main ones aren't. -
-
it says i have the wrong user name and password on my salliemae account too. i know it is right because i just logged in. i tried putting in my account number, ssn, birthdate, everything! but it's still not working..
-
-
Mine aren't working either. It says to enter my SSN and DOB when I do it always tells me I entered the wrong data.
-
-
I am still having this issue after trying ALL of the suggestions above. Why does this problem say "solved" when it isn't?
-
-
In order for Mint to access your Sallie Mae account successfully, you have to have your Sallie Mae account set up so that there are no promo screens between the log-in screen (on Sallie Mae site) and the account summary page. This includes U-Promise and the page where they suggest that you sign up for online payment of your bill. If you haven't signed up for these two things, log in to your Sallie Mae account from the Sallie Mae site. Accept Upromise, then accept online payment. Log out and log back in to make sure all the promo screens are cleared. Then go to mint.com and add the Sallie Mae account. It worked for me, and I had nearly torn my hair out before I got it right.
-
-
Nope! The promo screens aren't there. Is it that you now have to decide between salliemae and Dept. of education lons?
-
-
Sallie Mae works for me ...I just clicked on "SallieMae Loans" in the search and put in my info and it worked
I'm still trying to get SallieMae Dept. of Ed. Loans to work though....It keeps telling me I have duplicate accounts or something -
-
Nothing works...tried every single solution on this page - nothing! Problem is not solved Mint!
-
-
Mint is smart enough to ask me for ssn + birthday. But I'm not sure it's smart enough to break them apart and put them in the fields properly - because when I do it on a browser on a machine that hasn't been on my sallie mae account, and I see how it's asking, it's 3 boxes (not 1) for SSN, and then MM/DD/YYYY format, and it works fine. So Mint is gathering the proper info, but is unable to pass to the next area. Mint is unspecific about how I should format this for them.
-
-
I am experiencing this issue as well. Mint prompts me for my SSN and date of birth, however, it tells me problem accessing my account. I enter it in format xxx-xx-xxxx and mm/dd/yyyy. I have tried different combinations but all that does is lock me out of my Sallie Mae account.
-
-
I have the same issue. At one point it was asking me for my ssn and dob but it doesn't get that far anymore. It just tells me there is a temporary issue connecting.
-
-
I am having the same problem. I enter SSN and DOB, but I cannot figure out what format Mint wants.
-
-
I am having the same issues as everyone else and I can't figure out what to do... I have tried clearing all the pop-ups, I have tried putting in my account number, I have put in my SSN and DOB different ways. The only think that I can think of is when I get the screen about if I want my private or gov loan. Why can't they identify EXACTLY what the issue???
-
-
I still think Mint.com is pretty damn awesome for being free. But the perfectionist in me really would like to have Sallie Mae as an automated account...
Edit/PS: I notice, when logging into SallieMae and verifying identity, their fields for DOB automatically ADD a digit (user must erase) in the dd and yyyy fields. That may be entirely irrelevant, but a possible solution for the web technician. Peace -
-
How was this flagged as solved when it's pretty clear that something isn't quite right with SallieMae still? SallieMae just updated their website and since then I haven't been able to get Mint to update my SallieMae accounts. It had been working sporadically for the last couple weeks after not working at all for a while.
-
-
Tried again today... agreeing to the uPromise thing got me further... Now I just get a "temp issue connecting" instead of bad account info. Still no luck getting it in!
-
-
I'm also having the issue as well still too - even inputting all information including the optional account number.
-
-
-
Couldn't have said it better my self!
-
-
-
-
-
Before, it was asking me for my username, password, ssn and dob. Now it's only asking for my username and password. Every time it comes back with "Temporary Issue Connecting." This is the only account I'm having problems adding. Everything else either got through on the first try or after "trying again later".
-
-
Seriously is anyone looking at this, its not like Sallie Mae is a small organization. I get that its a free service but there are tons of replies about this not working and nothing from mint
-
-
Gaaahhhh if Mint doesn't fix this Sallie Mae login thing, I swear I'm totally using that OTHER free online fiscal aggregator! Don't think I won't!
-
-
Someone posted this in another Sallie Mae thread.
http://satisfaction.mint.com/mint/top...
It says Sallie Mae is blocking Mint for some reason. -
-
I submitted a customer help request via Sallie Mae a few days ago about this supposed blocking of Mint access. I haven't received a response yet.
-
-
I was able to ADD my SallieMae account for the first time today. But 20 min later when it went to refresh, it insisted that I put my account #, etc. again in a certain period of time. I did, it checked again, 20 min later down. Is it SallieMae's security, or Mint not saving something they should?
-
-
Found the solution! You have to enter in ALL the information.
User ID:
Password:
SSN:
XXX
XX
XXXX
AND (not OR)
Account Number:
(found when you log into your Sallie Mae account online)
DOB:
XX/XX/XXXX-
This is true! You have to add it ALL IN, even though it clearly states "OR". It's stupid.

From your post, it looks like you're being asked for more than 2 fields worth of information, and providing all of it in the format it requests makes it work. I wish it would be so easy for me.
I'm curious what boxes you were presented with to put information into, and on how many screens.
Today I only get 1 screen asking for userID and password, and it fails if I give it those (I don't get to the ssn + birthday screen today, as I have in the past).
On the other hand, if you're suggesting that you put information into the boxes that it's not asking for, then what are you actually putting into the boxes? -
-
Yes I agree, what fields are you seeing. Even when I do see the ssn and birthday fields I do not see and Account Number field ever. If you are entering the account number into the SSN field can you give an example of what that would look like? This is stil not a valid solution in my opinion, Mint's UI should not require its users to guess at what data needs to be entered or how to enter it. Again I know this service is free but I don't even feel like they are paying attention to this issue. And because its free I am going to start getting very annoying, I will start emailing you people at mint every day if I have to!

I really appreciate everyone trying to help each other out here. I just wish that for as long as this has gone on, someone from mint would comment that they are at least working on it. This is insanity, i keep trying this and expecting different results. Unfortunately people (like ugobananas above, can't blame him/her) are going to discontinue the use of mint due to the lack of support.
-
-
I am in the same boat. I just switched to Mint from Yodlee, but I'm going to go right back to Yodlee if this isn't fixed. What good is a service that aggregates all my accounts when it cannot access ALL my accounts? I don't understand why this hasn't been resolved in months and months. Boo.

I made an inquiry to Sallie Mae. Their response:
"Dear [me],
Thank you for your inquiry and for your business with Sallie Mae.
Unfortunately, Sallie Mae does not allow their customers to use any financial websites or software to manage accounts.
If we may be of further assistance, please visit our Web site at www.salliemae.com.

I seriously hate Sallie Maes security policy, we should all send them an email requesting the fix this issue with mint.com.

@solomanbenjamin - i wish u worked at mint to fix this for us
@dantzig - i call BS on that response since quicken online linked up fine. they lie, unbelievable right??
@bobthemagicman - i hate them as well...and u have a cool user name -

It looks like this is working now. The challenge questions changed a little bit and now I think Mint is working OK with Sallie Mae again.

Thank you for fixing this problem! My Sallie Mae account finally updated for the first time in a month. I know it was Sallie Mae that was the issue, so thanks to the Mint team for getting through to them and getting this service back on track!
-
-
Okay. So I know this is a major issue that took me quite a while to fix. Here is the problem: The reason this problem is marked as solved is because this WAS the solution up until 2-3 month ago. However,Sallie Mae recently(about 2 months ago) completely restructured their website so it now logs in from their home page instead of redirecting you to the old manage your loans site. When they did this they consolidated sallie mae loans with the loans managed by the Dept. of Education so it is easier for you to see and manage all of your loans in one place. The new site is much better, but I (like all of you) need it to work with my mint account no matter how friendly the GUI.
The solution:
1. GO TO SALLIE MAE SITE 1ST.
Sallie Mae requires you to make updates (unfortunately lots of them) to your account since they updated the site. Since I had not logged into my account in a while some things need to be updated. The first time I logged on a few screens popped up asking me to verify all of my personal and contact info as it currently appears in the my account info section. Then, another screen popped up asking me to update the same personal info to my current address, phone, email, etc. Next, I got a message letting me know that I had previously signed an agreement to receive my statements and letters online. Finally, another screen popped up letting me know about the new dual management tabs. LOGGING IN ONCE DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO RE-LOG ON ABOUT 5 TIMES TO CLEAR ALL OF THE POP UP WINDOWS. On the 3rd try I had to sign some kind of electronic agreement and enter a code. So my point is log on as many times as it takes until you no longer get the pop up windows mint cannot clear. You may also want to go and review all of your messages in the message center. I found that this does seem to help.
2. GO ENTER ALL OF THE INFO THAT MINT.COM ASKS FOR. After I no longer got pop ups (except the one letting me know about the new dual tabs as it sill popped up, but not every time) I went back to mint and entered BOTH my account # and my social even though it only asks for one. It took 2 attempts to connect. Make sure you are logged out of your saliemae account in other windows. I think it may block multiple log ons a a security feature. It was only after doing all these things I finally got my account to work after 2 months of it being offline.
Thanks for the tips everyone provided above!
I hope this helps all the frustrated souls here. If so you're welcome. If not, I guess you are sol. Best Wishes!-
You're absolutely correct regarding this solution! Thanks for helping me refresh my Sallie Mae student loan account information!

I had this problem also.
What fixed it for me was using IE instead of Chrome. That really surprised me.
First I was prompted for username/pw. Then SSN and DOB. and it worked after that.
Also, it only grabs the Sallie Mae loans, not the Department of Education loans. -
-
Sallie Mae is down for me too! Again! Ive re-entered my user id and password too many times to count and still nothing. All Mint keeps telling me is "Problem accessing your account."
-
-
I tried inputing both my account number and SSN and birthday... nothing is working.
-
-
I've been waiting for what seems like forever for Mint to fix this problem. At this point, I've just come to accept that it will never be fixed.
-
-
-
-
I just got this working after struggling for a few days. I logged into Sallie Mae using my account number (instead of using my SSN) along with DOB. After doing this I was able to setup my SM account through Mint *without error*. Not sure why/how that made a difference but I can see all my loans now. Worked for me so give it a try.
-
-
I can see all my loans - twice. which rather throws off my net worth! Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks!
- Sylvie -
-
I also found out that while using Chrome, my pop-up blocker was blocking the prompt for SSN and DOB (I use the Better Pop Up Blocker extension). Once I allowed MInt.com through the blocker, I was prompted and it pulled my account information.
-
-
Doesn't work for me. Mint asks for only a username and password. Then it says "Temporary issue connecting."
-
-
same here.. it asks for user name/pass then:
"Temporary issue connecting." .. have logged into sallie mae.. verified my credentials.. tried via chrome/ie and firefox... please assist -
-
My Issue with this is that Mint is doing things correctly, but when I log into SallieMae directly it asks me to update my information every single time. And since it asks this Mint thinks I need to go to the website and update information. Anyway around this? Get Salliemae to not ask for that or get Mint to ignore it?
