Changing Budgets
I would like the change up my budgets slightly. Is there away to do this. I travel a lot for work and sometimes it screws up how my budgets look. is there anyway to start them from scratch?

From what I've seen, you have to update/delete each category individually
-
-
You can also reset the rollover balances from the previous month by editing each budget individually.
It sounds like maybe the real problem is your transactions are not being categorized the way you want them to. When you edit a transaction, you can tell mint to automatically categorize all similar transactions the same way. Keep in mind that this will reset any categories you've applied manually to previous transactions with the same merchant, so if you shop at the same store, but sometimes for work and sometimes for a different category, you'll have to keep categorizing things manually. -

I never even set a budget, it pulled one from somewhere, if I set it up, I sure don't remember going through everything.
However, I am over budget on everything, I'd love a way to set it, without going through everything, I haven't figured it out yet. -

I wish I could expand and contract my "budgets" so I could just see the overall amount if I wanted to. For example, I have a lot of subsets in "Entertainment" but don't want to see them every time I look at my budget.

I agree! This is a feature we need.

is there a way to see a summary of my total budget for spending versus actuals
-
-
I also have problems PRINTING my budget and actual spending figures

Is there any way to roll BACK a budget? I just started using mint.com and have my budgets set up from here forward, but i would like to roll my budgets back for the last 2 months so i can see how i've done.

Same here. I started building a budget in August. If I can rollback 2 months, I will get a half year budget at the end of the year.
I would also like to be able to expand and contract the main categories, specially on the iPhone App.
Please get these features soon, I can't imagine it would be that hard to do. Mint already has the information, I would assume you just need interface changes. -

i think i have the same question. i signed up for mint in dec of 2010 but have really been using and understanding mint just this month. i want to go back to dec 2010 or at least jan 2011 and set my budget going forward. if i have to do it manually i don't mind but i haven't found a way to do this. does anyone have any knowledge about this?

I believe you can tweak it a little bit.
First, you can't go back to previous months budgets to adjust them directly. When you are on the Budgets page, you are able to go to previous months to see the budgets for those months and to be able to click on the specific topic's titles in order to see which transactions were under those posts. While viewing old transactions, you are able to change the categories of those transactions, which may affect the older budget's numbers.
Sadly, you can't do much more than that bit of tweaking. If I am wrong, please respond, because I don't like giving out false information, but I believe this is the case.
Also, I don't think this is one of Mint's top priorities, so I don't expect any changes regarding this any time soon. If any Mint employee disagrees, please let us know. -

The budgets are completely customizable, but only from a computer, not an iphone or ipad. You can add a budget for any category you want, even one you created; use the link at the top of the planning page. You can edit or delete any budget item existing. When your mouse is over a budget item, click on edit details and follow the prompts.

"The budgets are completely customizable". That's good to hear. How do I set up my 401K withdrawal budget where the amount is different each month? I have the same question for several categories. Thanks

Hi Minters,
We're so sorry for taking so long to reply on this topic.
Please note that Mint users can view their previous month's budget, they can no longer edit it.
Here's how to edit budgets in Mint:
1. Login to your Mint account.
2. From the row of tabs, click Budget.
3. Locate the budget you would like to change, and move your pointer over it.
4. Click "Edit Details" at the bottom of the box that surrounds that budget.
5. If you want to rename the category, type a new name under “Choose a category.” If you want to change the interval of time, make that selection under “When will this happen?” If you want to change the amount, type a new number under “Amount.” If you’d like to roll any remaining balance into the next month, check the box labeled “Make this budget roll over.”
6. Click Save. If you want to delete the budget, click Delete this budget.
If you need further assistance and you have additional queries, kindly complete the Contact Mint form, so we can work with you directly to resolve your issue.

Our support team would be happy to help you with your problems in a personal email conversation.

Is it possible to print a budget (current month), or carry it foward to the next month (not roll over the amount, but all budgeted line items, so I don't have to retype everything, for categories that are pretty much constant)
thanks -
