Can I use the mint.com account I already have or do I need to create a new account to use Canada Mint?
-
-
Great question, schultzter- so glad you asked! Changing your Mint.com account from one country (USA) to another (Canada) is not possible. You'll have to create a new Mint.com account and set country to Canada upon sign up. It is not possible to toggle between countries.
Since some features, such as Goals and SMS alerts, are not yet available in Mint Canada, so you may want to use your existing account and make the switch at a later time when all your favourite features are ready. Also keep in mind we do not currently have a way to transfer historical Mint transaction, budget or trend data from one account to another.
You can sign up for Mint Canada today but you will need to use a different email address than you currently use for your existing Mint (US) account.
Thanks for the great question. Sorry we can't gracefully switch your US account to a Canada account.
Best!

This is confussing because www.mint.com/canada under the FAQ section it says that you just have to login and change the country. I try to follow the steps on your main page but I found myself not being able to change the country.
Now reading this I am shock. All the customization that I have done and all my history will be lost if I want to swtich into my countrie's local interface? -
-
Too bad we can't get all our US and Canadian accounts by just going to one mint.com. I bet you'll find the reverse is also needed in Canada because alot of Canadians have US savings accounts just as some of us in the US have Canadian accounts. Are you planning to change this??

Works fine for my Cdn credit cards. TD and MBNA
-
-
I can't get it to work with my Canadian Tire options mastercard or most strangely by Costco American Express
-
-
-
-
-
I need to switch too. If I create a new account on the Canada side, how can I cancel the account I have setup on the US side? I would actually prefer to cancel my US account and then sign up again with my proper email address. Is this possible? Thanks!
-
I should have mentioned I saw this website in the Globe & Mail and decided to try it today.
-
-
I saw it on google news and will be referring to my clients
-

Would it be a waste of time to export transactions from an existing mint.com account for import to a new Canada account?
-
Yes. Mint cannot import.
-
-
-
-
-
Thats nice but I can't search for help without seeing all of the USA problems; a total waste of time.
I also don't like the last 90 days of history being pulled from my bank; there should be a way to delete history or select a "from" date. I am NOT going back three months to categorize everything! -
-
I too am hoping for the Canadian Credit Cards?? I put in a request for specific companies 24 hours ago, no response yet.
-
Take some time and read over the overwhelmingly large amount of issues reported by users on the site, then notice that Mint CS no longer responds to these threads nor do they respond to email with anything other than canned responses. A word of warning, if you aren't willing to work around Mint's issues, this isn't the site for you, because Mint will not be fixing anything anytime soon.

I'm really disappointed that I can't change my existing account to be Canadian. I signed up early because I was super excited about how awesome Mint is, but the thought of losing my history and having to recatagorize a bunch of stuff makes me not want to use it any more.

Agree would be helpful to be able to import history

me too

Is there any advantage to deleting my existing account and signing up again as a Canadian? I get access to all my data right now, moving to the Canadian mint means losing all my historical data and gaining.... nothing?
-
-
Not being able to switch an account to Canada is ridiculous. Sorry.
-
-
I am super thankful Mint finally supports Canadian users, however I, too, agree it's silly that the site does not support a switch for existing users. Why would anyone in their right mind switch when it involves the loss of all historical data?
-
-
Definitely an issue they need to fix. I can't imagine that they are storing the data in such a way that it would be too hard to fix.
-
-
Yay! Even though quite a bit of functionality is missing, and my credit card isn't supported yet, I'm still stoked that Mint is finally in Canada.
-
-
This is dumb. When I go to the login screen from the new Mint Canada site, I'm taken to the same login as the US site. Between that and the fact that you can't use the same email address for Canada and the US, I would assume that the same database is being used for both.
If that is the case, there is no logical reason why we should have to lose all of our historical data when moving to the 'Canadian' site!
I have six months of data in Mint.com; I have no intention of re-categorizing it all, but I would love to be able to access suggestion features that were actually relevant to me. -
-
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to respond to the comments about not being able migrate your data to a new Canadian Mint account. We understand your point and frustration here. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my earlier post, we do not have the ability to switch your account over. I know that's not what you want to hear, and I apologize for that.
One of the major benefits of setting up an account for Canada is that we will show you recommendations which shows you ways to save that are relevant for you (instead of for US residences). In addition, we are working on building out additional features, such as French support and multi-currency.
As suggested, you can setup a secondary Mint account for Canada right now so it starts to aggregate data and continue to use your US accounts for the time being. When you have sufficient historical data in your Canada account, you can then make the switch to using it instead of your US account.
I hope this information helps. We apologize that we can't gracefully switch your existing US accounts to the Canada version.
Thanks for using Mint!
Best,

I think it's reasonable, given that Mint is a free service, to simply carry on with the US account while building a Canadian one. What's the big deal, folks? You can download a lot of your info and keep it for your own records, in any case. Thanks, Mint, for developing the Canadian features for this great tool.

Is the reason you can't migrate data because you are storing sensitive data within the US and you are unable to transfer it to Canadian servers?
-
-
I too am happy to see that Mint Canada is available, but frustrated that there's no way to migrate data. I finally have everything setup and enough history to accurately see trends, and would hate to lose that transferring over to another account.
Will data migration be an option at all in the future? -

Just like you yo know that another CANADIAN household is waiting with bated breath for MINT to come to Canada. Now that's an IDEA open up a whole new potential consumer base.... :)

This is great but I cannot connect to my Bank of Montreal accounts. Where can I get help?
-

I can't believe that the switch is not available? I am a programmer and believe very strongly that things are possible as long as you invest the time and money.
It sure is a bigger problem for you than to us, since you will be missing in potential referals through your adds and it seems like there is a lot of Canadians in here that need this feature.-
It too am a software engineer and agree with you. However, I have discovered that the Mint team is in over their heads and clearly are not able to fully support or maintain this product. It sounds like this is a very low-budget project that many people just happen to be using. I, for the most part, have made my peace with the fact that Mint will always have big issues that will likely never be fixed, and, at some point, the product may become entirely unusable for the majority of the users. Mint is a product that is feature driven. That is, new feature development is paramount, while fixing defects in existing features is not. It's likely that this is not a problem with engineering, rather caused by an incompetent executive who is unaware that he or she is running a good product into the ground.

@Traycee I tried deleting my original Mint account and even after more than a couple days it still says I can't create a Canada Mint account with that e-mail address!
-
-
@schultzter - sorry for any frustration. It typically takes 48 hours for the deletion process to run its course - that's an estimate and at times can take a little longer (or shorter). Your original account was officially deleted today. If you try to sign up with the email address that was tied to your US account, you shouldn't have any issues now. Please let me know if you have any issues. Thank you, Traycee

I tried that and it doesn't work!
See my blog posts on the subject: http://2fatdads.com/u/h9 or http://goo.gl/fb/1ZKjp -

There's another issue: my username with Get Satisfaction is tied to my old Mint account - THAT I DELETED!!! So Mint's non-migration & non-recreate policy is causing havoc in the forums!!!
-

Don't switch. You just lose features and gain only targeted ads.
I only just signed up for a Cdn account. I'm happy so far, but missing some major things still. Will give it time. -
-
I am not sure people read my comment about Mint actually advertising that it is possible to change your account, but as the people on this tread know it is rather impossible to do the switch.
This is copied straight from the still online/active page: http://www.mint.com/canada/
"I use Mint now; how do I get the new Canadian features?
Already a Mint user and want access to Canadian-specific features, like Ways to Save? Simply sign up here and set your country selection to Canada. Some features, such as Goals, are coming soon, so feel free to use your existing account and make the switch when all your favourite features are ready. You will need to set up a separate Canadian account."-
Haha.. In your face Mint! But seriously Traycee, you should have a talk with your web guys so they stop lying to customers, or tell your dev guys to just implement it.

Welcome to Canada, mint! and thank you for offering your service here (finally)!
Just wanted to let you know that in Canada, "checking" is when you hit someone in hockey, a financial account is called "chequing".
My TD Canada Trust and Scotia credit cards work great! Now if only my Canadian Tire Mastercard would work!-

It seems clear to me that mint.com has stated that they have no ability or desire to allow US accounts to be switched to Canadian accounts. Having said that, my US account is working just fine for my Canadian banking needs. My credits cards all work (RBC VISA and Westjet Mastercard (also an RBC product) and American Express card), plus all of my RBC accounts sync and work fine.
So I'm left wondering what I will get when I switch to the Canadian site beyond targetted ads?
Can someone (either a very knowledgeable mint.com user or a mint.com representative) provide a detailed summary of the benefits of using the Canadian account over the US account for a Canadian resident?-
I wouldn't bash the targeted ads - better than getting random useless ads and they might contain something interesting!

I have a copy of Quicken which I've paid for. With the way mint.com is working for Canadians, I think I'll just keep using it. I don't see the benefit of going to mint.com.
Maybe others should consider buying Quicken once and then never having to go through this nonsense again.-
Sorry, but Quicken has the worst usability of any product ever. Mint.com has a slick UI and the ability to access your information anywhere and even from your smart phone... and it's free! I'd even be willing to pay for the service if they would fix the major holes.
-
-
I believe that Quicken (Intuit) recently purchased Mint, so they are under the same umbrella
-
-
-
-
-
A slick UI is a bit overrated when it cannot work with your everyday accounts. Most of my RBC accounts work fine, except for my RBC Westjet Mastercard. At least on Quicken, I can put in any account and get upload transactions from any website that exports to the Quicken format, which most do.
Don't get me wrong - I wish mint.com worked fine, but when it doesn't handle all of one's accounts, it doesn't matter how slick it is.-
I totally agree with you. I'm lucky that all my accounts work. I posted a few messages, and within 3 or 4 days they fixed my National Bank of Canada All-in-one, but before that I wouldn't commit.

love how upset people can get over a free service. Relax and wait. If you are so worried about your historical info don't switch. I don't get why its such a big deal?
-
I think you need an intro to business class, not to mention a lesson in the history of Mint as it relates to Quicken. Kindly do not post these kinds of things again until you are more familiar with the situation. Not everything is black or white. Some things are gray.

I just signed up for Mint today and couldn't get the CT account to work either, although my Royal Bank and ING Direct set ups worked beautifully. Can't get the PC Financial either. So two out of four, so far.
-
-
-
-
-
So to summarize:
I can have two mint accounts, a US and CANADIAN account, linked to the same bank accounts so long as the accounts have different email addresses?
There is no problem with more than one user account accessing a bank account?
I can then let the Canuck account accrue data for a few months while using my US account until enough of a baseline is established.
Correct?-
You are correct!
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
For pure Canadian, the localized version is great ! All we need is a little more flexibility in term of classifying accounts and we'll be set (ING free tax saving accounts showing as cash instead of investments, Line of credit showing as credit card instead of mortgage).
-
I'm in the same boat in terms of ING and the line of credit being mis-classified. I think the ability to import transactions from my US account would be awesome. I can export, but no import?

Sure Mint you're in Canada. But you're site doesn't work! I can't add or edit financial accounts. There's an error that pops up and won't go away. Completely useless site for me so far.

I actually have a question regarding the whole migration thing... I was already using my Canadian BMO accounts with Mint US and decided to open a new (Canadian) account with the same email address. Is it possible to retrieve all the data from the old account and set everything back as it was before or is it lost for good? I'd love to have all my data back if possible.
-
No it is not possible if you move over. If you are not having many problems I suggest staying there so you don't have to organize 3 months of data
-
-
-
-
-
It would be great if both US and Canadian financial institutions would be available from US accounts (or both!). I have accounts at financial institutions in both countries, and the benefit of an aggregator like Mint is to provide me with a single holistic view of my financial situation.
Requiring two accounts makes it more difficult to get that benefit, and from a technological perspective, I don't see why this artificial constraint need be added (and it seems it could solve a whole lot of the concerns on this thread).
Aside from that, love the product and have made many friends happy by introducing them to it.-
I have been able, in a Mint account (I am actually not sure if it is technically a US or Canadian account, but I am now realizing it may be set up as a US account...!) add Canadian Scotiabank bank accounts and investments as well as multiple US Fidelity Investments accounts... And they seem to integrate fine. As far as currency denominations I think it just keeps the $ as it feeds through.. so the US accounts stay USD and Canadian of course stay in Canadian dollars... Now, I just wish they would add a few more Canadian investment firms, such as Fidelity.ca and Manulife.ca group retirement plans....

Mint needs to address the issue of Transactions not updating automatically. Would be an outstanding tool when this is fixed.
-
-
I too am disappointed that I need to start over to gain a Canadian account. I've had a US account for some time and have been waiting patiently for the Canadian launch. Now that it's here, it's silly to think I have to start over. So I'm not going to. I'll just stay as "US". I've been able to add all of my bank accounts, investments, etc with the exception of a couple (HSBC Mastercard and National Bank Securities [formerly Altamira]).
Marie-
Update: I gave up and started over with the Canadian version of Mint. Wasn't that big of a deal in the end. Thanks for offering a Canadian product Mint -- it's really appreciated by lots of us!

And another note, I was able to get HSBC Mastercard to work. And National Bank Securities! So other than Standard Life, I can see all of my accounts.

@conamor: I read on an older post on how to get RBC accoutns to work and it worked for me (I had the same issue you're having).
On your RBC if you go to your profile then update preferences there's a section to give nicknames to your accounts. By adding nicknames to all my accounts it fixed the issue with connecting to mint. -
-
I already tried to change all nicknames for my accounts but still won't do it.
+ I had an account before I created when Canada was not up, I deleted it to recreate it on Canada but it says my email is being use so I had to get another email... -
-
Thrilled to start using Mint here in Canada. My Royal Bank and ING Direct sign ups went beautifully but couldn't get either Cdn Tire or PC Financial to work. I've been struggling with an old version of Microsoft Money for years and am so looking forward to integrating everything in this new platform. We'll just need to be patient until all the anomalies are worked out.
-
My PC Financial registered great...not sure if you are struggling with the Cdn Tire Mastercard, I had trouble also, but it's working now, be sure to to put ctfs.com in the box to search for the account, don't use the Canadian Tire Financial Services listed below the box, that will think you're trying to register a bank account. Hope that helps.
-
-
Thanks, Tony416. It doesn't look as if I'm replying directly to your comment here, but wanted to acknowledge anyway. Using the ctfs.com as you suggested did get me half-way there, opening prompts I didn't get before: username and PAC. I'm not clear on what is required as PAC though. I interpreted this as password, but it wouldn't take my password. Tried account number, that didn't help either. I called the Cdn Tire 1-866 # and no one there seems to know anything about any mint integration.
-
-
-
-
-
Hi runtzka, I had also called CTFS to no avail, and wondered what PAC stood for too, but I used my password here and it worked. Be sure to use your username (not an account number), just as if you had gone to ctfs.com and signed in there with the same user name and password. I hope you can get it to work, because I was very frustrated when it wouldn't work too and now I have two CT Mastercards registered with Mint.
-
-
Yeah, that's what I've been trying to no avail. I even cleared my cache in case it was causing the problem. I'm going to let things sit for 24 hours then start from scratch again. There is a slight chance that I'm too recent an online registrant at Cdn Tire for my data to be recognized. In going back to my profile there, I noticed a reference to the need to wait 24 hours for changes in address etc to take effect SO since I only set up my online access to my acct a few hours ago, maybe it isn't indexed. I'll update this post once I find out.
-
-
Okay, I hope that's it. Good luck, I just want you to know that it does work though, be patient and keep trying.
-
-
Are we going to have the same issue of migrating from the english version to the future french version?
-
-
Too bad for Canadians ... they too will get lousy service on problems as we in the USA have been getting for a long time.
HEY MINT ... FIXED THAT AMERIPRISE PROBLEM YET? IT'S BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS AND WE GET ACCESS TO OUR AMERIPRISE ACCOUNTS FOR A WEEK OR 2 THEN NOT FOR 2-4 WEEKS.
GREAT JOB, MINT USA!-
Update:
Finally, Mint addressed some of the problems with high profile accounts (ex. Ameriprise, Comerica). They are working now.
If only Mint would SERIOUSLY warn users that some changes are being made and would reply to EACH question or problem, it would go a long way to completing a good customer experience (product & service go hand in hand).
Quick and complete corrections of problem will save this product; the present practices by Intuit/Quicken/Mint management will kill it.
So, even if the product is getting better, a failing grade in customer support is still merited. -

Testing Mint for Canada out, love what I see so far but I was surprised to see that Citibank Mastercard wasn't supported.
https://citibankcanada.ebilling.com/-
Yeah, same boat. I can't believe there isn't a way to import the transactions via csv or something similar. I really want to like this, but since 90% of my transactions are via my citi mastercard.... it's unusable.

Hey Manulife securities has a new login site, which might be easier for the Mint Guru's to connect to: https://www.clientaccess.ca

That's great! I am loving the site but am anxious to know when investments, goals and all other features will be ready. Do you have an approximate date when it will be ready?

-

All of my requests for help have gone unanswered. It's been over three months since this thread has been updated. I can't even get budgets to work. Without all of the features advertized Mint.com/canada is just another dissapointment.
SORRY-
Hi there-
Sorry you are feeling disappointed. A lot of the questions and comments on this thread are actually answered and addressed in separate threads. Things like specific bank support and responses to feature requests are certainly heard by the Mint team and acted upon, but not directly seen this thread which was focused on our Canada launch announcement.
I can have someone look into the problem you are having with budgets. Could you post back to that thread (http://satisfaction.mint.com/mint/top...) and give a bit more detail about what is not working?
Thanks. Hope this helps.
Cheers! -

You should amend your statement that all major Cdn banks are supported. I deal with Royal Bank of Canada and cannot access to use mint.com...
-
-
I also deal with the Royal Bank of Canada. While I am still unable to access my Cdn Tire Mastercard, II didn't have any problems pulling in the various accounts I have with the Royal Bank or ING Direct.

Still waiting for SSQ Investment to be accessible... Excited about the french version coming... keep up the good work !!

I loved this interface at first sight. Thanks a lot, Mint.com!! I've always dreamed about managing all my accounts through a single online application. And now I've found it!! I'm from Quebec, and I could refer this to many people around me if you had a french translation coming up.

See http://t.co/YLZy3Y0
Well, the Canadian government has officially warned Canadians that giving third-party aggregators such as mint.com their bank ID and passwords, they are violating their banking terms of agreement and shafting their protection from fraudulant actions in their accounts. I'm closing my account and am out of here. -
-
See http://www.fcac-acfc.gc.ca/eng/media/... for the Canadian government's warning about using services like mint.com. I for one am closing my account in order to maintain my protection against fraudulent activity in my account. You've been warned...
-
-
Hmm This does concern me.. QUITE A BIT!!!.. to the point that I am also considering closing my account. Does mint work with the bank policies?
-
Me too. I'm going to have to leave, but first I'd like to see whether Mint has any comment. It's a shame because I love having all my accounts consolidated in one convenient place. It makes life so much easier when it's that time of the month - to pay the bills.
-
-
-
-
Same here.. I love having all my accounts in one place.. is so easy to keep track of my money.
I would also like to hear if Mint has any words on this.. But I am hoping is not the kind of response where they say "we are a secure application and do not share your id" I am looking for something more like you are not in violation of your license.. and balah blah -
-
-
-
well, I read the government site and I am concerned as well. Mint should come forward ASAP with assurance or else they will loose us canuks!
-
-
Will there be, at some time in the future, the capability to set the country in my profile to be Canada. Currently, the only option I have is United States. Also, will we at some point receive more appropriate alerts. Alerts that tell me to signup for an IRA and that my tax forms are due on April 18 are not useful to me.
Otherwise, I am finding Mint very useful.
Thx

I would like my Scotiabank Visa to be merged into my MINT. Are you going to be integrating our Canadian credit cards?
